History

What began as a small software user meeting 29 years ago, the CIS Users and Technical Conference grew to become known as CIS Conference, the premier educational conference for customer service professionals in the utility industry.

Originally the users conference consisted of utility company professionals sharing ideas and enhancements to a common customer information system (CIS) developed by TRES Systems. In the 1970’s, the conference had steady growth as utilities implemented the TRES Systems.

In the 1980’s, non-TRES utilities were invited to attend the conference in order to enrich the educational value. Then, as technologies changed, utilities began to implement replacement systems for the aging TRES Systems. Eventually, vendors and consultants of CIS were invited to participate and the first exhibit hall was held in conjunction with the 1991 Conference. Growth in the educational scope and vendor services resulted in an expanded format and agenda and in 1992 PricewaterhouseCoopers became the corporate sponsor, encouraging further growth at an even faster pace.

In 1995, leadership of the CIS Users and Technical Conference recognized the need to incorporate as a non-profit educational entity in order to better serve the utility industry. At that time, the name was changed to CIS Conference, Inc., in order to reflect more accurately the mission the conference was seeking to accomplish.

Each year, the board of directors and planning committee, comprised of utility customer service professionals, seek to enhance and improve upon past accomplishments in order to provide the very best educational opportunity for IOUs, municipalities, co-ops, resellers and government-owned utilities. Recent conferences boast high-profile keynote speakers, dazzling special events and state-of-the-art exhibits along with the timely and relevant workshop topics, which CIS Conference has become recognized for throughout the world. As of 2005, CIS Conference expanded into CIS Week, a consortium of educational events…

CIS Executive Summit, "A Forum for Thought Leadership," Is an invitation-only event, planned by senior utility executives for senior utility executives, it provides a forum to address strategic concerns, and future developments effecting utility customer service.

CIS College courses offer a full day of in-depth attention to current, critical utility customer service challenges. Topics often include how to select and implement a new CIS system, trends in contact center technology and practice, project management, multi-sourcing, and AMI/MDM.

CIS Synergy Groups are our newest expansion. They are designed to allow software users from around the world to gather and meet the software developers. In this setting they are able to discuss current and future developments.

CIS Conference is known for its exceptional educational sessions, spectacular networking opportunities and unparalleled exhibit hall showcasing the latest technologies and services. Attendees listen to inspiring keynote speakers; they may choose from over fifty utility-relevant workshops; and visit with over 100 companies specializing in customer care. All of the events are designed to increase understanding of key issues and enhance effectiveness of utility industry professionals.

CIS Conference, Inc. looks forward to continuing its heritage of outstanding service to the utility community through its strong leadership, vision and commitment to excellence. Mark your calendar and make plans now to join your colleagues from around the globe for CIS Week at the Gaylord Palms, May 21-24, 2007, in Orlando, Florida.
